Foster care is temporary care provided by responsible, compassionate and caring adult volunteers for Katnip Country Rescue cats and kittens until they can be adopted to quality homes. Foster care assignments can last from a few days to a few months dependent on the individual needs of each animal. Providing a good home environment with proper socialization, exercise and loving care gives our foster animals a better chance of being placed more quickly. We do not operate a shelter and rely on our foster homes for the success of our adoption program. Being able to place cats and kittens in foster homes allows us to increase the number of animals we can rescue. Katnip Country Rescue will provide food, litter, crates, bedding, toys and other items as needed for the animal while it is in your care at home. Katnip Country Rescue will provide necessary veterinary care (at designated veterinarian clinics) for foster animals and provide continued support and guidance to the foster family. You will be expected to keep the foster animal safe and secure, provide food, water, love and respect, exercise enrichment, socialization, basic obedience and house training as needed to make the foster animal more adoptable and better suited to the right home. You will return the foster animal to Katnip Country Rescue when requested to do so; not promise the animal to anyone or imply that you have the authority to approve a potential adoption. Katnip Country Rescue retains ownership of all animals placed in foster care and will make all decisions regarding the adoption and placement of the animals fostered. The foster parent is responsible for transporting the foster animals to and from pet adoptions and vet appointments as required, unless other arrangements are made. Foster services performed by an individual are voluntary and are without any express or implied promise of salary, compensation, or payment of any kind.

(Before you fill out the application, please read carefully!)

As a rescue we cannot determine how long you will have your foster in your care. It could be days, weeks or months. Being a foster is a commitment that you will care for the cats or kittens until they can be adopted out or until they can be put in an adoption center like PetSmart or Petco. If you don’t think you can commit to the amount of time it may take, DO NOT APPLY TO BE A FOSTER. A rescue cannot just move the cats or kittens that you have because you decided to go on vacation or decided it just isn’t for you. We base how many we can save from death at high kill shelters by how many fosters we have. We need a minimum of a month in order to be able to move foster kitties from one foster home to another. We can’t just snap our fingers and make it happen.
